Deep fat cooking oil fires: This model uses a potassium carbonate/potassium acetate wet chemical, applied through a fine mist spray nozzle. The chemical is designed to react with the surface of the oil/fat to form a soapy-type film which cools and smothers the fire. This extinguisher is far more effective than traditional powders (which do not cool) and foam which can cause a "boil over" effect.
